Historical Debut By Steven Matz

Patient and athlete at the Professional Athletic Performance Center, Steven Matz joined the New York Mets' 40 man roster and had an historical debut during his first start on Sunday, June 28th against the Cincinnati Reds. Steven Matz was drafted by the New York Mets in 2009. Throughout his time in the minor league system, Matz trained with Dean Maddalone, Director of the Professional Athletic Performance Center. In 2010, Matz underwent Tommy John surgery and again turned to Professional to continue his post-op rehab and training to return to play. "I had the pleasure of working with Steve while he was in the minor league system and through his rehab," said Maddalone. "Steve has such a tremendous work ethic and drive to reach his goals... things every athlete should strive for." On June 25th, 2015 Matz joined the Mets' 40-man roster with intent to start on Sunday, June 28th against the Cincinnati Reds. In an incredible performance both on the mound and offensively, Matz lead the Mets to a victory over the Reds, and simultaneously made a name for himself in the Mets' record book. "I cannot be more proud of him on his debut with Mets. Not only is Steve an incredible athlete, but one of the most humble and personable people you will meet," said Maddalone. The entire Professional family would like to wish Steven continued success this season and a long rewarding career ahead!

Boomers Get Back In Action

Boomers Get Back In Action

Spring is finally here! People are shaking off the winter rust and becoming more active. While there are many health benefits to living an active lifestyle, getting back in action after months of inactivity could lead to injury. This is especially true for baby boomers that face new challenges from natural aging. “After periods of inactivity, anyone over the age of 50 should check with a medical professional before beginning a new exercise regimen,” said Neil Moss, Partner and Clinical Director of Professional Physical Therapy in Bayside/Whitestone, Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, and Doctorate in Physical Therapy. “Once given the green light, remember to incorporate injury prevention techniques, such as an active warm-up. The most important thing is your exercise form. Exercises performed incorrectly can lead to injury.” “Baby boomers are particularly at risk for injury due to the effects of natural aging such as the loss of muscle mass, bone mass, and soft tissue elasticity. Learning proper injury prevention techniques can help boomers stay active and injury free. At Professional Physical Therapy, we help patients of all ages with custom rehabilitation treatments and injury prevention plans for sports and activities of daily living.” Originally Published in The Queens Courier "Health/Fitness Section" Volume 27 Number 15 | April 3-9, 2014
