Matt, a Senior Physical Therapist for Professional Physical Therapy, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in 1997 and then completed a two-year residency program in manual therapy in 2001. He is currently a candidate for full-fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists. He is also a former owner of ProEx Physical Therapy, a very successful outpatient practice, founded in 2001. Now Professional Physical Therapy, his organization is the premier provider for outpatient physical therapy care in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. In 2008, Matt became certified by Workwell Occupational Health Systems to focus on the rehabilitation in the industrial work setting through functional capacity evaluations. He specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation, sports injuries, and treatment of the spine.
Matt has over 22 years of experience working with Professional, Collegiate, and High school athletes in the field of physical therapy, and designing customized fitness programs, which he successfully demonstrated as Program Director of Baystate Sports Training, 2001-2005. While earning his degree, Matt pitched on the Husky baseball team, helping to lead the program to the NCAA Division I Regional baseball tournament his senior year. He then signed a contract to compete professionally for a year in Holland. Matt plays an active role in the community, speaking on topics related to physical therapy and sports conditioning with local business groups and athletic organizations, as well as appearing as a regular guest lecturer at Northeastern University, Boston University, Bay State College, and Simmons College. Matt is a past member of the Woburn Rotary Club and holds current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, and the Massachusetts Private Practice Special Interest Group of the APTA, of which he has sat on the group’s Executive Committee. He served as co-Chair of the Payment Policy and Practice Committee of the Massachusetts APTA from 2012-2015, focusing his attention on advocacy and legislative issues. He held the position of Chair from 2015-2016. He is currently on the faculty of Boston University’s College of Health and Rehabilitation Science’s Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Program. Matt’s dedication to the field of physical therapy is exhibited every day in the knowledge and training he provides to his staff and the personal attention and care he conveys to his patients. In 2019, Matt left Professional to work with 7-time Super Bowl Champion Tom Brady and his lifestyle brand, TB12. Matt's role as Senior Vice President involved oversight of over 20 physical therapists, athletic trainers, and acupuncturists and expansion of the brand's physical centers in Boston, MA, and Tampa, FL. He returned to the Professional family in January of 2021.
Matt is married to Jessica (Capone) McManus, also a Northeastern graduate (Bouve ’00) and physical therapist. She is the founder and owner of Full Circle Physical Therapy and Wellness, an outpatient specialty practice on the North Shore specializing in a holistic approach utilizing functional medicine principles. Matt was elected into the Wilmington High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 and currently sits on that Board of Directors. He is active in his community, coaching youth basketball and baseball and previously sat on the Byfield-Newbury Baseball & Softball League Board of Directors as that organization’s President. They reside in Newbury, Massachusetts, and have two children, Alexandra and Drew.
