After injuring my ankle/foot and being in an immobilizing boot for 6 weeks, I was so discouraged - my range of motion was horrible and pain was unbearable! All of the therapists have worked diligently to guide me on my road to recovery. Scheduling has been flexible (which is great since I have 3... young kids) and the therapists are always hyper focused on insuring that I am making progress and my pain is decreasing. Without them, I would still be limping! I am forever grateful to Elaina, Lauren, and Todd.read more

Elena Malik was my physical therapist. I broke my leg (femur/hip fracture) having slipped on ice. Elena provided me with exercises that helped me walk again without any assistance. I went from walker, to two crutches, to one crutch to cane to NOTHING. Was able to accomplish this because Elena... was attentive to the muscles that needed stretching and strengthening. She monitored my progress very carefully. She used new techniques from a PT conference she attended. I am very grateful to Elena and recommend her services to any other person who needs PT! Thank you Elena :)read more

Elena is amazing! She is very knowledgeable and provides a personalized hands-on care. I came to physical therapy for a severe knee pain that was limiting my ability to perform everyday tasks. In July, I got into a boating accident which led to serious injuries to my right leg and foot- severed tendons and a cut calf muscle. After looking up various Physical Therapy offices in Mt. Pleasant, I decided to go with Professional Physical Therapy and booked appointments with Elena 3 days a... week. It was the best decision I made in my recovery process. Elena is so unbelievably talented at her job - knowledgable, kind, attentive, and compassionate every step of the way during my recovery. She is a pleasure to see on a daily basis with a great and friendly personality. When I went back to my surgeon months later, he was shocked at the progress and mobility in my leg. 4 months later I am back to my daily routine and partaking in the activities I love. The entire staff at Professional Physical Therapy was top notch - Paul, Annie, Todd, Michelle and Elena. Paul always made sure my appointments were booked properly and handed me a paper receipt after every session.I would recommend this Physical Therapy office to anyone - especially booking with Elena! 10/10!read more

In 2014, I broke my foot playing baseball and was relegated to the sidelines (managing but not playing) during my team’s magical championship run. 6 years later, I saw we had the same magic early on and decided to proactively prevent a similar situation. I had been battling chronic back issues... for years and they seemed to creep back every baseball season. I started physical therapy with Elena at Professional Physical Therapy before the start of the delayed 2020 New York Adult Baseball Season with one goal in mind. To be healthy to be able to be on the field and contribute to another championship. Thanks to Elena’s guidance and amazing knowledge of the human body, we were able to identify the problem, isolate the seldom used core muscles that I wasn’t using and I was on the field for our championship! Thanks to Elena and the team, Professional PT lives up to its name.read more

Bio

Dr. Serena Chryssikos attended Binghamton University in New York for her undergraduate degree, and then continued on to Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to and while attending physical therapy school, she worked as a trainer and also taught group exercise classes. There were multiple ground-breaking moments in Dr. Chryssikos’s life that inspired her to pursue a career in physical therapy. Most notably, when her younger sister underwent a highly invasive scoliosis surgery, and witnessing her go from barely able to walk to becoming a full-fledged varsity athlete, all thanks to her amazing physical therapist. Several years later, on a more personal level, she found herself totally defeated and facing surgery in a physical therapy office after sustaining a debilitating knee injury -- the result of a 17-year soccer career. Thanks to the amazing PTs and PTAs she worked with, she found herself not only back on the soccer field, but participating in Olympic lifting, competing in physique events and completing Spartan races. She was told that surgery was the only option, managed to avoid surgery; it was the physical therapists who helped her return to her prior level of function and advance even further. Physical therapy taught her that there is life after injury. These events all contributed to her decision to pursue her doctorate in physical therapy. Dr. Chryssikos incorporates her interest in sports, her experience with strength and conditioning training and her love of Pilates in sessions with patients. “At the end of the day, there is nothing more gratifying than hearing from my patients that I have helped them in some way. I enjoy being relatable, and I love it when my patients can find some commonality while working with me. My young adult athletes especially motivate me, because they remind me of myself when I sat in that physical therapy office more than 15 years ago, and this in and of itself inspires me to keep doing what I do.” Dr. Chryssikos is a self-proclaimed foodie. When she isn’t treating patients or working out, she enjoys following New York sports teams, star-gazing, relaxing on the beach and traveling all over the globe with her husband.

While spending the first years of my career at two major NYC Hospitals, I was able to gain experience with a vast patient population consisting of many different diagnoses. After five years of licensed practice and over 2,000 hours in direct patient contact in an outpatient hand therapy setting, I earned my advanced certification in hand therapy. I have continued to expand my knowledge through continued coursework and staying current with the latest evidence based practice techniques. I am very adept at custom splinting for both protection and treatment of upper extremity conditions. I began working with Professional Hand Therapy in 6/2018 and have since grown the Hand Therapy Practice in Westchester from the ground up and have spearheaded a clinical mentorship program for novice therapists to learn from their more experienced counterparts.
