golfer's elbow pain relief.

Physical Therapy for Golfer’s Elbow (“Medial Epicondylitis”)

Medial Epicondylitis is often referred to as “golfer’s elbow”. However, you don’t need to be a golf player to develop this condition. Whether your golfer’s elbow symptoms only flare up occasionally or has become a chronic pain, physical therapy can help to reduce elbow and forearm pain and help you get back to work, sport, and your regular activities as quickly and safely as possible.

Professional’s physical therapists are experts in assessing discomfort caused by Medial Epicondylitis and creating individualized treatment plans that aim to relieve pain, improve the status of your joints, tendons, and muscles, and alleviate your symptoms for the long term.

What is Golfer’s Elbow or Medial Epicondylitis?

Medial Epicondylitis is a very common injury to the inside of the elbow tendon where the muscles attach. It is usually caused by overuse or repetitive activity which can break down and inflame the tendon. This condition is often called “golfer’s elbow” as it can occur with repeated bending, flexing, and overuse of the wrist, such as when gripping and swinging a golf club.

While playing golf can contribute to the development of Medial Epicondylitis, the injury occurs more often with trade labors that include repetitive strain, impact, and bending in the wrist. Daily overuse activities such as gripping heavy objects, exerting large amounts of pressure with your hands, or using heavy or vibrating manual tools are primary causes of golfer’s elbow. If left untreated, Medial Epicondylitis pain can become more intense and can affect your ability to perform daily tasks like using a computer, getting dressed, or lifting and carrying objects.
