Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) or Graston technique is an advanced form of myofascial mobilization — similar to deep-tissue massage. This technique utilizes specialty hand-held instruments to perform soft tissue procedures to increase circulation, relax tissue, and break up scar and adhesion in muscles and around joints.
Clinicians trained in this technique can effectively locate adhesions and restrictions in the soft tissue through the vibrations or undulations that these instruments provide. It is also used to increase blood flow to the targeted areas and speed healing.
